Samantha Lewis of Burry Port will be running an incredible 14 marathons in 14 days to raise funds for the Chemotherapy Day Unit at Prince Phillip Hospital.

The challenge will start on 7th April 2024 at the Brighton Marathon. Samantha will then stay overnight, run another marathon in the morning and head back to Burry Port to do the remaining 12.

Samantha said: “I decided to run 14 marathons in 14 days because my husband’s long-time friend, Wayne Evans, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

“Wayne sadly passed away this year and received care at the Chemotherapy Day Unit at Prince Phillip Hospital.

“My running coach, Gary Howells, is helping me keep on track and makes sure I'm doing everything possible to get me ready for the challenge. Training consists of very early morning starts so I can run before work.

“Training is going very well, hard to fit it all in around family life and work but I am managing, it’s nothing compared to the battle cancer patients face. My husband built a gym in the garden with a treadmill in so that is a massive help. I will be honest, the body is tired but feels very prepared for what's to come.”

Nicola Llewelyn, Head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board, said: “We want to send Samantha a huge good luck and thank you as she takes on her incredible challenge. The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”
