The donations we receive allow us to fund additional patient comforts to make time spent in hospital more comfortable.
This includes items like 'forget me not seeds' which we've recently funded for grieving families who are supported by the Specialist Palliative Care Teams across Carmarthenshire.
Forget me not seeds are the small, dry seeds of the forget me not plant, also known as Myosotis. A forget me not is a flowering plant which is often planted as a symbol of remembrance, love and lasting connections.
The seeds can offer comfort and healing to grieving families by providing a living, lasting tribute to a loved one who has passed away.
Sharon Jones, Palliative Clinical Nurse Specialist, said: “We’re incredibly grateful that charitable funds have enabled us to purchase the seeds.
“The seeds are sent by the Specialist Palliative Care Teams to families of patients who have passed away under our care either in the hospital or in the community.
“As a team, we want to demonstrate kindness and compassion to bereaved families, with a gesture akin to hospice care. These seeds let the families know we are thinking of them and want to help them to remember their loved ones year on year as the seeds flower.”
