On Friday 9th August, over 50 adults and children took park in a 3k sponsored summer stroll at Pembrey Country Park to raise money for the Paediatric Diabetes Service within Hywel Dda University Health Board.

The walk, which was organised by Kim Crossman, Paediatric Diabetes Administrator, and Katie Hancock, Pembrokeshire Fundraising Officer, raised a fantastic £1,667 for the service.

Simon Fountain-Polley, Consultant Paediatrician, said: “It was great to see so many families getting together for the walk, it offers a chance for them to meet and share their experience of the daily work of managing diabetes and the challenges that brings.

“It’s also helped us raise money for Hywel Dda Heath Charities which means we can continue funding the trips and education we aim to offer. Our team uses these funds to organise activity days for the families, alongside learning how to manage diabetes in different situations, such as Moving to Year 7, and Diabetes and Exercise.”

Katie Hancock, Pembrokeshire Fundraising Officer, said: “We’d like to say a massive thank you to all who were involved in the Paediatric Diabetes Summer Stroll. It was great to see everyone come together for such a fantastic cause.

“It was a great turnout with families supported by the service and staff members taking part. The weather was perfect!

“The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”
