200km running challenge raises £1,500 for charity

Jason Clifton has raised a fantastic £1,500 for the Head and Neck Cancer Department at Glangwili Hospital.

Throughout the month of August 2022, Jason ran 200km in support of both the Head and Neck Cancer Department at Glangwili and the Radiotherapy team in Singleton Hospital, where he received incredible care.

Jason was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma in December 2021. He underwent 30 rounds of radiotherapy and two lots of chemotherapy over a three-month period.

Between his diagnosis and treatment, Jason also suffered the tragic loss of his father and three other family members.

Jason said: “I took up running after my treatment had finished. Getting out in nature helped me massively. I also did cold water therapy. I decided to run 200km in August to help others and to give back to the Head and Neck Cancer Department at Glangwili Hospital and Radiotherapy at Singleton Hospital.

I would just like to say a huge thank you to everyone for the donations, help and incredible support.

Anwen Butten, Head & Neck Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist, said:The Hywel Dda Health Board Head and Neck Cancer Team would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude Jason.

“These generous donations will allow us to provide services and activities above and beyond what the NHS can normally provide to head and neck cancer patients and their families pre- and post-treatment, during their long-term recovery/rehabilitation and provide support to our palliative patients.”
