Thanks to the fundraising efforts of Team Evans and the Wayne Evans North 2 South Wales Cycle, Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board, has been able to fund a treatment chair worth over £3,000 for the Chemotherapy Day Unit at Prince Philip Hospital.
Team Evans is a fundraising team of family members, friends and colleagues of the late Wayne Evans. Wayne fundraised passionately for the chemotherapy unit at Prince Philip Hospital as a thank you for the outstanding care he received following a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. He even completed the Wales 5k run at Long Course Weekend Wales in July 2023 with a team of over 60 family and friends.
Throughout 2023 and 2024 Team Evans have been fundraising in all kinds of ways to support their local NHS charity.
In August 2023 and 2024, the North 2 South Wales Cycle group biked from Llanelli to Bangor during the August bank holiday weekend. And ‘A Touch of Purple’ fundraising ball, at the Diplomat Hotel in Llanelli, was held in Wayne’s memory in May 2024.
“The therapy chairs are used to deliver chemotherapy. We have had positive patient feedback from staff and patients having accounted for the long periods of time sitting on the chair.”
Nicola Llewelyn, Head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board, said: “It’s fantastic to see the impact of Team Evans’ and the Wayne Evans North 2 South Wales Cycle group fundraising. We’re so pleased that we could help the Chemotherapy Day Unit by purchasing this vital chair.
“The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”
