Bake sale raises £1,000 for head and neck cancer service

Nicola Martin-Davies and her colleagues at Penygroes School have raised £1,000 for the Head and Neck Cancer Service at Glangwili Hospital.

Nicola, a teaching assistant, recently received exceptional care from the Head and Neck Cancer Service team.

During the 2022 school summer term, staff at Penygroes School decided to raise funds for the service by baking and selling cakes.

Nicola said: “I'm so chuffed to have raised £1,000, even though I couldn't eat a single cake at the time."

Anwen Butten, Head & Neck Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist, said: “The Hywel Dda University Health Board Head and Neck Cancer Team would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Nicola and her colleagues.

“These generous donations will allow us to provide services and activities above and beyond what the NHS can normally provide to head and neck cancer patients and their families pre- and post-treatment, during their long-term recovery and rehabilitation, and provide support to our palliative patients.”
