Kelly-Marie and Benn Williams have raised over £1,900 for the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) at Glangwili Hospital.

Kelly-Marie and Ben set up a GoFundMe page and started fundraising via their social media pages, encouraging friends and family to share their story and donate.

Melody, their daughter, was rushed to the SCBU soon after her birth in September 2023 and stayed there for two weeks.

Kelly-Marie said: “Melody was born at 37 weeks without surfactant in her lungs, so she was unable to breathe properly on her own.

“Thank goodness for the amazing work and life-saving treatment given by the heroes that work in the unit. They were all amazing, caring, hardworking and compassionate.

“We wanted to raise money for the unit and help provide them with the resources they need to keep doing the outstanding work that they do. We are forever grateful for the treatment and care they gave to our baby girl.”

Bethan Osmundsen, Senior Nurse Neonates, said: "We are overwhelmed by the generosity of the parents and families who continue to think of us and choose to support the SCBU in Hywel Dda.

“Thank you for all your fundraising efforts as this money will be used to continue to look after the babies and families, who need our help and support. It will make a great difference, diolch yn fawr."

Nicola Llewelyn, Head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board, said: “The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”
