The family of Alun Rees Thomas, owner of A&B Tool Hire, have raised £9,245 for the Chemotherapy Day Unit at Prince Philip Hospital in his memory.

Alun sadly passed away on 30th September 2024 after a long battle with cancer.

Alun’s family raised the funds through a range of fundraising events such as a raffle at the Royal Welsh Show, funeral donations and their annual tractor run which took place the week after he died.

Lynwen Jones, Alun’s Daughter, said: “Alun’s last wish was for his annual tractor run to continue from his home, Bryndolau, Ffarmers, Llanwrda on Sunday 6th October 2024.

“As a family, we were overwhelmed with the support shown. There was a turnout of over 170 tractors participating on the run and a yard full of spectators supporting the event in memory of Alun.

“Even though we knew as a family what a successful businessman our loving dad and husband was, the amount raised was a testament to how popular and well liked he truly was. It has given us great comfort to see the donations raised and to be able to meet Alun’s final wish to be able to present these cheques to such amazing charities who helped him throughout his final days.”

Nicola Llewellyn, Head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board, said: “We’d like to say a very special thank you to Alun’s family for raising such an incredible amount in his memory.

“The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can normally provide and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”
