The Co-op in Llangennech, Llanelli, has raised a fantastic £1,997 for the Wish Fund through the Co-op Local Community Fund.

The Co-op Local Community Fund supports projects across the UK that their members care about. They work together in partnership with thousands of local causes every year to help them raise as much money as possible.

The Co-op in Llangennech chose the Wish Fund as their cause for 2022/23.

The Wish Fund is a campaign which gives children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions and their families the opportunity to create magical memories.

Rachel Brown, Paediatric Palliative Care Play Specialist said: “As a team we are truly grateful to Co-op Local Community Fund and everyone who supported the Wish Fund.

“The funds received will make such a difference to the children, young people and their families who we provide care to across our Health Board. We want to thank everyone in the community for their support, kindness and continued generosity.

“Our team’s ethos is ensuring we make a positive impact and difference to the lives of these children and young people. The funds will bring much joy and happiness to the children and families we care for at times that can often be faced with uncertainty and challenges.”

Chloe Butler, Store Manager at Llangennech Co-op, said: "What an absolute pleasure to be able to donate such a lovely amount to the Wish Fund!

“United by our membership card, our commitment to giving back while earning rewards. Together, we've turned loyalty into compassion, transforming every purchase into a meaningful contribution.”

Claire Rumble, Carmarthenshire Fundraising Officer for Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board, said: “This wonderful funding from the Co-op will help to create lasting memories for the children and families by enabling the Paediatric Palliative Care team to arrange special activities such as family day trips and entry to events.

“The funding will help provide toys, arts and crafts materials for therapeutic play to help children and young people process and understand what they are experiencing as well as provide personalised condolence books and ‘Be Brave Teddy Bears’ for siblings.

“The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”
