New games and activities for children and young people attending the Bro Myrddin Wellbeing Hub

Games and activities for Bro Myrddin Hub

Thanks to generous donations, Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board, has been able to purchase games and activities to help keep the children and young people (CYP) who attend the Bro Myrddin Wellbeing Hub in Johnstown, Carmarthenshire entertained and occupied.

The hub is Wales’ first mental health crisis hub for children and young people who are in need of urgent support and is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

It provides round-the-clock bespoke mental health provision for children and young people in a therapeutic environment, at a time when they need it most. Bro Myrddin provides a safe space for children and young people who present in crisis, preventing distressing and unnecessary admissions to A&E and mental health wards.

Some items that have been funded by the NHS charity are a ‘Bop It!’, colour by number books, air dry clay and key ring making kits.

Alex Simpson, S-CAMHS Crisis Team and Substance Use Service Manager, said: “We’re incredibly grateful that charitable funds have enabled us to purchase more games and activities for the CYP we support at the hub.

“The items purchased can help the patients to meaningfully engage. Sometimes we have children and or young people attend who struggle with communication, so using the newly funded activities is a good way of engaging them.”

Nicola Llewelyn, Head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board, said: “The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”
