The Wish Fund is an initiative delivered by Hywel Dda Health Charities which creates lasting memories for children and young people with life-threatening and life-limiting conditions and their families.
Thanks to the funding, the families and carers visited St Brides Hotel and Spa in July 2025 for a much-needed respite which included a sound bath session, lunch and use of the Marine Spa.
Rachel Brown, Paediatric Palliative Care Play Specialist, said: “We’re so grateful for the generous donations to the Wish Fund that enabled us to organise this experience for the parents and carers we support.
“Caring for a seriously ill child is an emotionally and physically demanding experience, often leaving parents with little time to focus on their own wellbeing. Many face high levels of stress, anxiety, and isolation, which can impact their ability to provide care.
“This day was a special experience for the parents and carers we support. They were able to relax, take care of themselves, step away from their daily responsibilities, connect with others who understand their journey, and engage in activities that promote relaxation and emotional healing.”
A parent that attended the parents and carers day said: “The whole experience was just amazing from start to finish.”
Katie Hancock, Fundraising Officer, said: “This is what the Wish Fund is all about, providing additional well-being initiatives and services for the whole family.
“We are incredibly pleased to have funded such a fantastic day for the parents and carers of children and young people supported by the Paediatric Palliative Care Team. We look forward to funding more trips like this in the future.
“The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”
