Sisters Kim Hawkins and Jenny Slocomb ran the Berlin Half Marathon in April and raised £2,418 for the Critical Care Unit (ICU) at Glangwili Hospital.

Kim and Jenny’s mother, Sally Hawkins, recently passed away on the unit.

Kim said: “Doing the Berlin Half Marathon has given us something lovely to focus on at such a difficult time.

“Mum loved gardening. We wanted to raise money in her memory, and to say thank you to everyone who cared so brilliantly for her. We wanted the money to go towards the ICU patient garden. We would like to thank everyone who supported us.”

Nerys Davies, Senior Nurse Manager, said: “We would like to express our deepest gratitude to Kim and Jenny following their incredible effort of running the Berlin Half Marathon to raise money for the ICU in memory of their beloved Mum, Sally.

“The funds you raised will make a lasting difference to patients and families during some of their most critical and vulnerable moments. From all of us, thank you for your strength, your generosity, and for sharing your Mum’s memory in such a meaningful way.”

Claire Rumble, Fundraising Officer, said: “The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are very grateful for every donation we receive.”

Your donations are making a positive difference to the health, wellbeing and experience of NHS patients, service users and staff.
