Stroke ward staff to take on Yr Wyddfa

Staff from Ystwyth Ward, the acute stroke ward at Bronglais Hospital, are climbing Yr Wyddfa to raise funds and awareness of strokes.

Staff Nurses, Health Care Support Workers, the Ward Clerk, Ward Sisters, Physiotherapists and an Occupational Therapist from the ward, along with family and friends, are taking on the climb on 1st June 2025.

Jackie Thomas, Ward Clerk, said: “We are raising money for rehabilitation equipment for Ystwyth Ward and making a donation to the Stroke Association.

“We wish to raise awareness of stroke in our local community and how important it is to act on the first signs of stroke. The money raised will help with patient recovery and rehabilitation.

"I am really excited. The camaraderie in the team is brilliant and positive. Discussions around our kits, the weather and level of fitness has brought a beautiful bond between the team before even leaving.

“The reason I am taking part in Stride 4 Stroke is because I love working with the stroke team, they are passionate about what they do and I believe we need to raise awareness of stroke so patients will act FAST to seek the appropriate medical assistance and support them in their rehabilitation.  We want the community to know that we are there for them.”

Alison Wall, Healthcare, said: "I have worked within the Stroke Unit from the day it all began.  I am passionate about stroke care and this is why I am taking part in Stride 4 Stroke.  The money raised for rehabilitation equipment will really change lives and I am happy to be part of such a wonderful team.”

Cat Davies, Apprentice Trainee Nurse, said: “I am taking part in Stride 4 Stroke to raise awareness of stroke.  I have been working on the Stroke Unit for 2 years. I have always wanted to help those that have suffered with stroke and aid with their recovery following my stepfathers stroke a few years ago.  He was treated by the Acute Stroke Unit and received excellent care.”

Nicola Llewellyn, Head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, said: “We’d like to say a massive thank you to staff from Ystwyth Ward for coming together to take on such a great challenge to raise funds and awareness. Best of luck to you all!

“The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”
