Tenby Round Table has donated £1,250 to the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) at Glangwili Hospital.
When the son of Edward Spence, the former Chairman of Tenby Round Table, was born last April, he spent several hours in SCBU.
He received exceptional care and support from the service, which is why the group wanted to donate to the unit.
Edward said: “Tenby Round Table is a group of volunteers who carry out fundraising throughout the year to support a variety of local and national causes and charities.
“We are delighted to be able to support the Special Care Baby Unit and its fantastic staff with some of the proceeds of our Summer Spectaculars which we hold every summer in Tenby Harbour.”
Bethan Odmundson, Senior Nurse, said: “We are very grateful to Tenby Round Table for their kind donation. The SCBU team are currently working on a number of projects that our charitable donations will be funding.
“The kind donation from Tenby Round Table will be used to purchase a number of items which will enhance the experience of families, for example, care packs; items to meet the varied needs of families during their time on the unit and to make their stay as comfortable as possible; a new parents and family room, and soft toys.
“The team regularly purchases a range of matching soft toys that are offered to families when there is a period of separation and a parent is unable to be with their baby for health reasons. One toy is kept by the parents and the matching one is kept with the baby, providing comfort to the families.”
Nicola Llewelyn, Head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board, said: “We want to say a huge thank you to Edward and Tenby Round Table for their fantastic donation.
“The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”
