Dewi Owen completed the Llanelli Triathlon and raised £3,100 for the Chemotherapy Day Unit at Prince Philip Hospital.

Dewi, a primary school teacher and bus driver from Llanelli, took part in the triathlon on Sunday 11th May 2025 and raised the funds as a thanks for the exceptional care that his late father, John Owen, received on the unit.

Dewi said: “My father was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer, on 1st July 2010. He received exceptional care from the Chemotherapy Day Unit for 14 and a half years and, up until his passing in January, he was still receiving treatment every other Thursday.

“He often spoke of his gratitude for the hard work and dedication of the doctors and nurses at the unit, acknowledging that without them, many patients, including himself, wouldn't have had the precious extra time they did. It was an honour to complete this triathlon in his memory and to give back to the unit that cared for him so well.”

Nicola Llewelyn, Head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board, said: “The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”
