Every year, Llandysul Cricket Club organises a president’s day where members fundraise for a charity while enjoying a game of cricket, a barbecue and live music. This year, the club chose SCBU as the son of members of the local community, Lowri Davies and Jordan Jones, received excellent care there.
Lowri said: “Our son, Elis Rees Jones, was born on 5th January, eight weeks premature. The care he had during his five weeks on the unit was outstanding. The support our family had during this difficult time was brilliant and being able to stay in a room on the ward close to Elis meant the absolute world. We will forever be grateful to all the staff in SCBU.
“We held a charity cricket fun day in Llandysul Cricket Club. Pubs in the area each had a cricket team and played games with each other throughout the day. We finished off with two girls’ teams playing against each other. We are now hoping to arrange this event every year.
“We also organised two charity fundraiser bingo evenings in Gwarcefel Arms, Prengwyn.
“Thank you to Llandysul Cricket Club, all local businesses who donated the raffle prizes, the Gwarcefel Arms for hosting the bingo nights, Swine and Dine hog roast for the food, Way Out West for the music and most importantly the local community for joining us to raise the money.”
Nicola Llewellyn, Head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, said: “Massive thank you to Lowri, Jordan and their supporters for raising such a fantastic amount for the Special Care Baby Unit.
“The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”
