Independent bike shop, Afan Bikes, has raised an incredible £1,700 in aid of Angharad Ward, the children’s ward at Bronglais Hospital.

On 5th July 2026, staff from Afan Bikes, which is located in Aberystwyth Industrial Estate, held a sponsored bike ride starting and finishing at their shop, with a BBQ at Bwlch Nant Yr Arian.

Stuart Hickman, from Afan Bikes, said: “This year, we chose to support the hospital because it's a service that benefits everyone in our community at some point in their lives. We were incredibly grateful to the Cliff Railway for supplying the food and to Tesco, Bookers and Spar for donating raffle prizes.

“Organising the event was challenging and at times quite stressful, but seeing everyone come together and knowing we were raising money for such an important cause made it all worthwhile. The end result was extremely rewarding."

Paige Denyer, Fundraising Support Officer, said: “Huge thank you to Afan Bikes for fundraising in aid of Angharad Ward.

“The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”
