Nine-year-old to climb Yr Wyddfa for Paediatric Diabetes

A nine-year-old girl from Llanon is taking on the challenge of climbing Yr Wyddfa to raise funds for Hywel Dda Paediatric Diabetes which cared for her following her diabetes diagnosis.
Lilly Edwards, who attends school in Aberystwyth and will be starting Year 5 in September, is set to climb the mountain on 12th September 2026 alongside her family and friends.
Catrin Edwards, Lilly's Mum, said: “In July 2026, our daughter Lilly was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. It was a frightening time for our family, but the care, kindness and support we received from the diabetes team at Glangwili Hospital was incredible.
“Despite everything, Lilly has faced her diagnosis with remarkable courage and determination. To thank the team who have helped her, and to show that diabetes won't stop her achieving big things, she's taking on the challenge of climbing Yr Wyddfa. We're so proud of her and grateful to everyone supporting her journey.
“This climb is more than just a walk up a mountain. For Lilly, it represents strength, hope, and proving to herself that diabetes will never stop her from doing big things in life.”
