Mum takes on Marathon Eryri for charity

Alys Williams, a Mum from Carmarthenshire, is set to take on one of the UK's toughest running challenges to raise funds for Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official of Hywel Dda University Health Board.
On 24th October 2026, Alys will run Marathon Eryri in Snowdonia, raising funds for the Perinatal Mental Health Team as a thanks for the support she received during one of the most difficult periods of her life.
Alys received support from the team during her pregnancy and following the birth of her son, Ioan.
Speaking about her fundraising challenge, Alys said: "During my pregnancy with Ioan, I struggled with anxiety and, after he was born, I experienced quite severe postnatal depression. I never got to experience the lovely baby bubble that everyone talks about. Instead, I felt absolutely nothing.
"It was one of the hardest periods of my life. There were days when I couldn't see a way forward, but the Perinatal Mental Health Team at Hywel Dda were there for me every step of the way.
"Their kindness, compassion and unwavering support helped me through my darkest moments and gave me the strength to recover. The care they gave me didn't just change my life, it had a positive impact on my whole family and I'll always be grateful for everything they did for us.
"Now, I want to give something back. I'll be running Marathon Eryri as a way of saying thank you to this incredible team.
"Every donation, no matter how big or small, will help support the amazing work they do for parents experiencing mental health difficulties during pregnancy and after the birth of a baby."
