Hywel Dda Health Charities launches St David's Day Fire Walk fundraiser

Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board, is calling on supporters to take part in a thrilling St David’s Day Fire Walk at Glangwili Hospital at 5pm on Saturday 27th February 2027.

Participants will walk barefoot across five metres of burning embers which reach temperatures of up to 800°C – all in the name of raising funds for NHS services across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire.

The event is open to individuals and teams aged 18+. Participants are required to pay a £15 registration fee and make a fundraising pledge to raise £85. Fundraisers can choose to support a specific ward, hospital or service, with all proceeds going towards funding items and activities which are beyond what NHS funding typically covers.

Tracy Beynon, a fundraiser who took on the charity’s 2025 fire walk, said: “Last October, I took part in the first Hywel Dda Fire Walk, something I had always wanted to do. It was a personal challenge that pushed me well outside my comfort zone, but it was also an opportunity to prove to myself that I was capable of more than I thought, and I raised money for a healthcare team close to my heart at the same time.

“Before the walk, we received training that focused on mindset, confidence and overcoming fear. What surprised me most was how useful these techniques have been in everyday life. The lessons learned on the day have helped me deal with challenges, stay focused and approach difficult situations with a more positive outlook.

“Walking across hot coals was an incredible experience. The sense of achievement afterwards was unlike anything I had felt before. It was so exhilarating that I genuinely felt as though I could conquer the world.

“A fire walk is about much more than walking on fire. It's about believing in yourself, overcoming self-doubt and discovering what you can achieve when you put your mind to it. If you're looking for a challenge that will leave you feeling empowered and inspired, I would highly recommend signing up for the next one. You might just surprise yourself.”

Claire Rumble, Fundraising Officer at the charity, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for our supporters to challenge themselves while making a real difference to our local NHS. The Fire Walk is about courage, community and commitment – and we can’t wait to see our supporters take on the flames!"
