Cerith Coates’ friends, family and colleagues smashed the Welsh Three Peaks Challenge, raising £10,870 for Ward 7 and the Chemotherapy Day Unit at Prince Philip Hospital.

Cerith’s friends, family and colleagues took on the challenge on 16th August 2025 as a thank you for the fantastic care he has received from staff on Ward 7 and in the Chemotherapy Day Unit.

Cerith said: “I was diagnosed with bowel cancer in November 2024. I was operated on within a week of diagnosis and was cared for by an amazing team of doctors, surgeons and nurses on Ward 7 at Prince Phillip Hospital.

“In January 2025, I was told by my oncologist that the cancer had spread and was incurable but was treatable and manageable. I have since been receiving chemotherapy at Prince Phillip Hospital which is working well. I am so grateful for everything they have done for me.

“My friends, family and colleagues completed the three peaks within 24-hours, and I joined them for the final climb up Pen y Fan. It was an amazing experience, full of different emotions including happiness, excitement and exhaustion.

“There are so many people I’d like to thank including my dad, Alun, Manchun, Felicity, local businesses, Tycroes Rugby Club and a special mention to my friend Andrew for organising the challenge.”

Rhian Glasson, Junior Sister, said “It was lovely seeing Cerith again and all his family.

“The staff on Ward 7 at Prince Philip Hospital are incredibly grateful to Cerith and his family and friends for the kindness and generosity shown by this wonderful donation to our ward through charitable funds.

“Your support makes a real difference to our patients, their families, and our staff, helping us provide comfort, care, and support when it is needed most. Thank you for making such a positive impact.”

Kath Watkins, Senior Sister on the Chemotherapy Day Unit, said: “On behalf of the staff and patients at the Chemotherapy Day Unit at Prince Philip Hospital, I would like to thank Cerith, family and friends for their fundraising efforts resulting a very generous donation.

“We are always looking at ways to improve the environment and improve the way we care for patients within the Chemotherapy Day Unit.  Please be assured that this money will go towards this improvement. Thank you.”

Claire Rumble, Fundraising Officer, said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to Cerith, his friends and family for deciding to fundraise for both the Chemotherapy Day Unit and Ward 7 at Prince Philip Hospital. We are incredibly grateful for your support.

“The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”

Your donations are making a positive difference to the health, wellbeing and experience of NHS patients, service users and staff.
