Cemaes Cyclists took on a 100-mile cycle challenge and raised £10,000 for Angharad Ward at Bronglais Hospital.

Colin Harding, Matt Robson, Tanya Sherrell, Wayne Tattersall, Vanessa Simone Reed and Adrian Scott cycled over 100 miles from Wolverhampton to Aberdyfi on 21st June 2024 in aid of the children’s ward.

Colin Harding, member of Cemaes Cyclists, said: “Welan, my son, spent nine nights at Angharad Ward and then another eight nights at Cardiff Children’s Hospital back in March 2024 following a burst appendix.

“My wife and I were impressed by the care given and the dedication of the staff on Angharad Ward. Staff made Welan feel at ease and the care was truly amazing. We as a family wanted to say thank you.

“We’d like to say thank you to everyone who has donated, to our families, and we are grateful for community support from Bro Ddyfi and Dovey Valley and the residents of Cemaes who encouraged the cyclists during the bike ride through our Cemaes village.

“We’d also like to thank Simon Davies as he was the cyclists support driver during the cycle route and was on tap with flapjacks, water, pain relief gel and tyre repair kits.”

Bethan Hughes, Senior Sister, said: "A huge thank you to Cemaes Cyclists for fundraising for Angharad Ward, this was an outstanding fundraising event which has raised £10,000.

“I’d like to take the opportunity as Ward Manager to thank all who were involved in the fundraising activity. Thank you for putting Angharad Ward at the centre of this event. As a team, we are extremely overwhelmed by the amount of money raised. This will make a big difference to the children, young people and their families who we care for."

Nicola Llewelyn, Head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board, said: “We’d like to say a big thank you to Cemaes Cyclists for raising such an incredible amount for Angharad Ward.

“The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”
