Thanks to a Car Show and Run in Lampeter, £6,500 has been raised for the Chemotherapy Day Unit at Bronglais Hospital.

The event, which included a raffle and auction, was organised by Anthea and Dai Jones with the help of Lampeter and District Motor Club.

Anthea said: “On Sunday 8th October, a very special event took place at Lampeter University Campus which arose from a cause very close to my heart, it was thirty years since my mother was in remission from breast cancer.

“Myself and my husband, Dai, were celebrating 30 years of marriage and when we got married my mother was undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer, so what better way to celebrate my mother's recovery 30 years on than to raise money for worthy causes.

“The show was fantastic. Hundreds of people turned up, the support was immense. There were many highlights on the day, around 150 cars made their way to the campus: old cars, rally cars, modern cars and some very rare ones!

“Another highlight of the day was the Formula 1 car that was on display, thanks to the generosity of the JB Civil Engineering and Son. Everyone was amazed that a Formula 1 car had found its way to Lampeter.

“There was a very successful auction in the hands of Andrew Morgan, Morgan and Davies Auctioneers, with hundreds of people gathering to support. The auction included many items kindly donated by the local community such as a flight for three people around Ceredigion Bay, rugby tickets, weekends away, hampers and vouchers, just to name a few!

“After the show, around 120 cars travelled through the narrow lanes of the area down to Llandeilo Rugby Club for a cup of tea and cake before travelling through the countryside back to Lampeter. The route included some of the roads that are used on the Motor Club's annual Bro Caron rally, and for many it was nice to travel over them in daylight and at a more relaxed pace.

“To conclude the fantastic day, the raffle was drawn, with a top prize of £500 donated by the Motor Club amongst other great prizes that were donated by local businesses and friends.

“We’d like to say a special thanks to Lampeter and District Motor Club for their donation of over £1,200, Mary from HSBC with a donation of £500 along with Christine from Lloyds Bank with another donation of £500. As a result of the event a huge sum of £13,000 was raised for the Chemotherapy Day Unit at Bronglais and Peony Breast Care at the Prince Philip Hospital.”

Nicola Llewelyn, Head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board, said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to Anthea, Dai and all at Lampeter and District Motor Club for raising such an incredible amount.

“The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”
