Carmarthen Tywi Rotary Club has raised an astounding £2,500 for Chemotherapy Day Unit at Glangwili Hospital, and £2,500 for Prostate Cymru.
Carmarthen Tywi Rotary Club is part of the global Rotary service organisation which has 1.2 million members worldwide. They are a local group of volunteers who come together to support their community through a wide range of fundraising activities, including golf days, concerts and the popular duck race held alongside the Carmarthen River Festival.
In February 2026, the club organised a sporting lunch at Carmarthen Quins Club featuring guest speaker Welsh Rugby International and British & Irish Lion, Colin Charvis, supported by MC Brian Harries.
Phillip Williams, Club President, said: “Fundraising and supporting worthy causes is in the 'Rotary blood' and on this occasion, it was decided to support these two causes because of the synergy between both organisations. The prostate cancer screening organised by Prostate Cymru has saved lives amongst members, family, friends and the wider community not the least because of the treatment and support provided by the dedicated team at the Glangwili Hospital Chemotherapy Unit.
“The event was a resounding success, attended by 140 guests who were entertained by Colin with stories about his career and the rugby world as well as his role as a Prostate Cymru Ambassador. MC Brian Harries kept the event going with wit and humour, while also encouraging guests to give generously during the auction.
“£5,000 was raised, which exceeded all expectations with half of the funds donated to Hywel Dda Health Charities and half to Prostate Cymru.
“We would like to thank our sponsors and guests who so generously supported the event. Special thanks also goes to Mike, Kath and all the team at Carmarthen Quins Rugby Club for providing such excellent food and service.”
Jessica Michael, Senior Sister, said: “On behalf of the staff and patients at the Chemotherapy Day Unit at Glangwili Hospital, I would like to thank Carmarthen Tywi Rotary Club for their support and fundraising resulting in a very generous donation of £2,500.
“We are always looking at ways to improve the environment and improve the way we care for patients within the Chemotherapy Day Unit. Please be assured that this money will go towards this improvement.”
Claire Rumble, Fundraising Officer said: “We are incredibly grateful to Carmarthen Tywi Rotary Club for their support. Their fundraising will make a real difference to patients receiving care at the Chemotherapy Day Unit.
“The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”
