Hyrox is a fitness racing event that combines functional workout stations with running, challenging participants to complete eight one-kilometre runs, each followed by a different workout, including rowing, sled pushes and wall balls.
Jolene competed in the event on 30th April to give back to the unit that looked after her.
Jolene said: “After receiving amazing care at the chemo unit, I wanted to give something back. I raised £800 for the unit and £800 for Macmillan.”
Jessica Michael, Senior Sister, said: “On behalf of the staff and patients at the Chemotherapy Day Unit at Glangwili Hospital, I would like to thank Jolene for taking on this challenge, resulting a very generous donation of £800.
“We are always looking at ways to improve the environment and improve the way we care for patients within the Chemotherapy Day Unit. Please be assured that this money will go towards this improvement. Thank you!”
Claire Rumble, Fundraising Officer, said: “It’s great to see our fundraisers using popular sporting events like Hyrox to fundraise for their local NHS charity. Thank you so much Jolene, we are so grateful for your support.
“The generous charitable donations we receive don’t replace NHS funding. Instead, they are used to provide items and activities above and beyond core NHS expenditure, such as more welcoming surroundings for patients, families and staff, andthe latest equipment.”
