Charitable donations fund bladder scanner worth over £10,000 for Prince Philip Hospital

Thanks to generous donations, Hywel Dda Health Charities – the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board – has purchased a bladder scanner worth over £10,000 for Ward 3 in Prince Philip Hospital.

Ward 3 is a general medical ward specialising in elderly care and frailty. It supports patients with diagnoses such as dementia and Parkinson’s disease and those who are living with frailty.

The bladder scanner will help the service provide timely and efficient assessment and care to patients, supporting their rehabilitation.

Cerys Hopcroft, Junior Sister, said: “Ward 3 is shortly launching a new frailty unit. The new equipment will enable us to scan patients on admission to the unit to identify any issues promptly. 

“The scanner will also ensure that the new unit will run efficiently and smoothly. It means we can assess, diagnose and treat patients with bladder problems on the same day. It will ensure there are no unnecessary delays to patient care, and that patients can potentially be discharged sooner.

“We are so very grateful that we have been able to have the bladder scanner for Ward 3 and look forward to seeing how it will support us daily with patient care.”
