Wendy sadly passed away from metastatic breast cancer in December 2025, two years and four months after her diagnosis.
Described as the “glue that held the family together”, Wendy’s loss has left a huge hole in the lives of her loved ones. Shortly after her passing, Richard, Carys and Carwyn shared a fundraising link on Facebook in her memory which was inundated with donations.
Carys Phillips, Wendy’s daughter, said: “It was a no‑brainer to choose the chemotherapy unit because they were always so good to Mami. The staff were kind and caring during a difficult time in her life, and they were exactly the same with us during treatment and after losing Mami.
“It’s nice to be able to give back to the unit and hopefully try to help other patients and families in similar circumstances. It’s nice to know the donations will be going towards items such as the wellness boxes because Mami had one of the very first ones and she absolutely loved it. It was a nice treat. She had been under the care of the chemo unit for two years, and I know the staff on the ward became like new friends and another family to her, and I could never have asked for better people to care for and provide treatment to her.
“It’s been mind-blowing, I never expected to raise this much, and I am beyond grateful to everyone. It’s comforting to know how loved Mami was and how much everyone appreciates the work of the staff on the chemo unit. Thank you to everyone who has donated in Mami’s memory.”
Katie Hancock, Fundraising Officer, said: “We want to say a huge thank you to Richard, Carys and Carwyn for setting up a fundraiser in Wendy’s memory. We’re so grateful for your support.
“The generous charitable donations we receive do not replace NHS funding. Instead, they support additional items and activities outside core NHS expenditure. These small extras make a big difference, and we are so grateful for every donation we receive.”
