Lisa Cockroft braved a hot coal walk in October and raised a fantastic £324 for Carmarthenshire Community Children’s Services.

The charity event, hosted by Hywel Dda Health Charities, saw participants take on a thrilling barefoot walk across 800°C embers to fundraise for the NHS.

Lisa, a Paediatric Nurse who has worked in Hywel Dda University Health Board for 26 years, 16 of which have been in the Community Children’s Nursing Service (CCNS), decided to take on this challenge to raise funds so that the CCNS can purchase their own training defibrillator.

Lisa said: “Those who know me well know how much I love a challenge and I thought why not try a fire walk for a change?

“The experience was truly empowering, and I would highly recommend it to anybody who wants to do something different. Crossing the fiery path taught me that fear is often an illusion, a barrier that we can choose to overcome with the right mindset and support.  The fire walk was no longer an act of bravery; it became a powerful metaphor for navigating life’s challenges. With courage and support, anything is possible.

“Everybody was so supportive and the words of encouragement from everybody were amazing. This challenge will stay with me for a very long time.”

Tara Nickerson, Fundraising Manager, said: “A huge thank you to Lisa for braving the hot coals for Carmarthenshire Community Children’s Services.

“The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”
