Consultant Urologist Yeung Ng has raised £489 for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Glangwili Hospital.

On 6th July 2024, Yeung cycled the L'Etape du Tour de France, which gives amateurs a chance to ride a mountain stage of the Tour de France.

Yeung said: “This year, 16,000 cyclists from around the world attempted the Queen stage from Nice to Beuil taking in four summits over 140km and a total ascent of 4500m (15,000ft), finishing at the summit of the Col de la Couillole at 1678m elevation.

“I completed the course in 8 hours 59 minutes which was close to my target time amongst just over 10,000 finishers.

“I raised the money for the ICU at Glangwili Hospital to say thank you for the expert and compassionate care my partner received when she was seriously ill last year.

“The cycle also marked the culmination of my own recovery from a serious neck injury sustained in 2022 and is a significant goal which I am proud to have achieved. I was off the bike for 12 months and had spent the last six months training over 3,000 miles and climbing 200,000ft of elevation in preparation.

“I would like to thank the staff in ICU at Glangwili and friends from Bynea Cycle club.”

Nicola Llewellyn, Head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, said: “We’d like to say a massive well done to Yeung on completely such an extraordinary challenge.

“The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”
