The family of Rhys Calthorpe, who sadly passed away at 14 years old, once again took part in the Saundersfoot New Year’s Day swim in his memory and raised an amazing £1,000 for Cilgerran children’s ward at Glangwili Hospital.

Rhys sadly passed away in July 2023 due to Relapsed Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. Rhys passed peacefully at his grandparents' home, where he wished to stay, with his family around him.

Mr. Morris, Rhys’ Grandfather, said: “Thank you to everyone who donated and sponsored us again this year and for the last three years.

“We were very emotional when we found out the total was £1,000. This is our way of saying thank you to the wonderful team who looked after Rhys and our family.”

Katie Hancock, Fundraising Officer, said: “A heartfelt thank you to Rhys’ family for your incredible effort and generosity in taking part in the Saundersfoot New Year’s Day Swim. Your support for Cilgerran Ward means so much, and your willingness to brave the cold to raise funds is inspiring. We are so grateful and it’s a lovely tribute to Rhys.

“The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”
