Andrew Homfray organised his fourth annual charity golf day and raised £1,383 for the Psychological Integrated Therapies Service at Hywel Dda University Health Board and Veterans NHS Wales.
The golf day was held at Carmarthen Golf Club and Driving Range on 17th April 2026.
Andrew, Interim Service Delivery Manager of the Integrated Psychological Therapies Service at Hywel Dda, said: “Last week saw our annual Veterans NHS Wales Charity Golf Day. The aim, as always, was to raise funds for future investment in key items to help improve engagement with our veteran community — and to see whether waterproofs really are waterproof.
“This year was our biggest event to date, with an impressive 24 teams (96 players) signed up and ready to go. I believe it is safe to say that every single golfer experienced the full Carmarthenshire weather package at some point during their round.
“Despite this, spirits remained high — possibly helped by the entertainment waiting on the 9th hole, where the now‑famous “Wheel of Fortune” greeted players on the tee. Golfers were required to spin the wheel to determine which club they had to use on the short par 3, leading to some… creative shot selections and results that will likely be discussed for many years (or quietly forgotten, depending on performance).
“A huge thank you goes to Sarah Shute and Layla Sahami‑Devon, whose enthusiasm, energy and well‑timed use of a boombox ensured smiles all round and also to Stevie Clarke Carpentry for sponsoring the Nearest the Pin and Straightest Drive competitions.
“Behind the scenes, my thanks go once again to my wife Nia and daughter Bethan, who heroically supported registrations and administration throughout the day, and to Andrew Seabourne and Paul Hayler for their diligence in scrutinising scorecards post‑event — a task requiring patience, fairness, and occasionally a ‘shandy’.
“Thank you to everyone who braved the conditions, to the local community for their generous raffle donations, and to Carmarthen Golf Club for hosting us once again. We are already looking ahead to next year, aiming to be bigger and better — and optimistic that the weather might choose to be slightly more cooperative. Please keep 16 April 2027 free in your diaries. Sunshine has been formally requested.”
Tara Nickerson, Fundraising Manager, said: “We’d like to say a massive thank you to Andrew for organising his fourth fantastic golf day in aid of our charity. Year after year, his commitment and enthusiasm bring people together for a great cause.
“The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”
